SIGN UP FOR VOTER PROTECTION

The campaign will contact you after you have submitted your information to the Obama Voter Protection Program. Eventually, YLFO will connect its New York members with other members in targeted states for voter protection work on Election Day.

ABOUT YLFO

Vision

Through a variety of avenues—ranging from fundraising to voter protection and everything in between—lawyers can play a crucial role in propelling Senator Obama to victory in the White House. Young Lawyers for Obama (YLFO) leverages all of the many resources that young lawyers can bring to bear on behalf of the campaign, while creating a sense of community among those involved. Ultimately, our vision is to have chapters in every city and state in the country.

Our Role in the Campaign

YLFO works directly with the campaign to engage our members in all the ways we can be helpful. We submit regular reports to update the campaign about our contributions and successes. YLFO also serves as the lawyers component of Generation Obama and the young lawyers component of Lawyers for Obama.

Fundraising

The most obvious—and perhaps most important—contribution that lawyers can make is with their checkbooks. Through serving as hosts for high-dollar events with Senator Obama and Michelle Obama, organizing our own low-dollar events, and soliciting donations from those in our personal networks through our YLFO National Finance Committee and Honorary Chair program, YLFO works hard to raise money for the campaign.

Legal Volunteering & Voter Protection

From drafting legal memos to staffing the campaign’s voter protection efforts, legal work is another area in which YLFO supports the campaign.

Field: Canvassing & Phone Calls

We also assist the campaign by helping in the field: canvassing, getting out the vote, and phone banking—in our own communities and in swing states across the country.

Policy & Political Outreach

We also have members with policy backgrounds, who are involved with the campaign’s policy committees and have been assisting the campaign’s political staff.

Community-Building

Lastly, through all of this—as well as other activities such as debate-watching parties, happy hours, and community service events—we will be developing a community of attorneys and law students who enjoy their involvement and feel fully invested in the campaign. By doing so, we believe it’s more likely they will continue contributing—both their money and time—until the November election.
